Well, we see you. Because we ARE you.
Meet Yoli. She’s 54. She’s the founder of Conscious Coterie. And this whole thing? It started because she was trying to help people survive a pandemic.
Rewind to February 2020.
Yoli relocated from New York City to Scottsdale because her body was literally screaming at her. The cold, the dampness, the brutal New York winters... her health couldn’t take it anymore. Arizona’s dry climate was exactly what she needed. Back in New York, she’d been running Markets where amazing designers, indigenous artisans, vintage collectors, and antique dealers would come together. Real people making real things.
Then COVID hit.
Everything in New York City shut down completely. And Yoli started getting calls from her vendors, panicking as their entire income source was gone overnight. Meanwhile, in Scottsdale? Boutiques were still open, and people were still shopping. So she rented a retail space on a month-to-month lease (thinking it would be temporary, maybe 3 to 6 months). The boutique thrived. What was supposed to be a 3-month lifeline turned into
something bigger.
Here’s where the story gets personal.
While Yoli was building this business, her own body was changing. The health issues that drove her from New York? They came with consequences. She was no longer the size 2 or 4 she’d been for years. And like so many of us, she held onto those old clothes, hoping that one day, they’d fit again.
At the same time, she started bringing in linens and looser-fitting pieces to the boutique. And something clicked. Women who came to shop were lighting up. They felt polished while covering the areas they were most insecure about. They looked elegant without feeling exposed. Yoli realized these women were her age and felt insecure too.
A little lost about what they should even be wearing anymore.
That was the turning point.
Conscious Coterie stopped being a general boutique and became something specific. A place for women navigating the same body changes, the same frustrations, the same “nothing in my closet fits anymore” crisis that Yoli herself was experiencing. For women who wanted quality fabrics that drape beautifully. For women who’d been through pregnancies, weight loss, weight gain, menopause, perimenopause, stress eating, and everything in between.
Since June 2020, we've dressed thousands of women in our Old Town Scottsdale and High Street Phoenix boutiques.
We've had conversations with women from Arizona, New York, Florida, Portland, Chicago, Toronto, Dallas, Seattle, and every small town in between. Teachers on vacation. Executives on business trips. Women celebrating divorces.
Women celebrating 30th anniversaries. Women who drove two hours just to find ONE pair of pants that fit right.
And here's what we learned from every. Single. Conversation:
You're not looking for fashion advice from a 22-year-old influencer (unless she starts with"My mom says...").
You have a closet full of clothes that don’t fit anymore because you can’t accept that you’re not losing those 15 pounds. (We get it. We ALL have that closet.)
You want comfortable. At 50+, you already know what’s going to pinch, ride up, or make you feel like you’re wearing a garbage bag. You’re done with that.
